PULL ON YOUR BOOTS & GRAB YOUR COWBOY HAT. Country western dances have long been a favorite part of American culture. The growing popularity of todays country rock music has added new life to these dances. Country Parachute Roundup introduces rhythms and coordination patterns that are fun-to-do and help children develop basic skills. The most popular western dance steps and sequences are the Cotton Eyed Joe, Two Step, Texas Two Step, swing, schottische, and clogging. These steps are presented simply and slowly to allow children to easily catch on. The dances can be done with a parachute or as circle, line or partner dances. The music has been carefully arranged to teach the steps easily but it never loses the energy and excitement of the country sound. Selections 1 7 contain narration directing the dance movements. Selections 8 14 are instrumental versions of each song and can be used for variations of the basic steps or for other activities.
