The Importance of Kids Learning Dance

The Importance of Kids Learning Dance

By Janelle Inkens (for Fitness Beginnings)

Dance can teach kids so many important skills.

Tap dance teaches coordination and rhythm.  Kids will learn to keep time with the music while moving their feet!  It is a fun high-energy dance that kids love!

Ballet is the foundation to all types of dance.  When learning Ballet, kids will perfect coordination and improve flexibility.  Ballet also increases strength while helping kids with proper posture of the entire body.

Jazz dance is another type of dance that kids love.  Jazz provides style as well as flexibility.  Tap, Jazz and Ballet all instill discipline and health conscious attitudes that will be beneficial tools as children grow and learn.

Other areas I have seen children grow include, learning to participate in a structured environment, direction following, respect for themselves as well as others, taking turns and increased self-esteem.  Kids love to express themselves and any type of dance can help them do that while gaining other valuable skills.

Janelle Inkens is a 36-year-old wife and mother of two.  She studied Tap, Jazz and Ballet most of her childhood.  At the age of 25, she was hired for her first teaching job. She started a dance program for a non-profit organization in her town ten years ago and it has been a continued success.  She has had the pleasure of seeing former students be successful on their High School dance teams and cheerleading squads as well as studying dance at reputable colleges.

Fitness Beginnings offers a variety of videos and DVDs designed to introduce Tap, Jazz, and Ballet dance to children from ages 2 and up.
